CUSTOM MEETINGS AND OFF-SITE RETREATS
Retreats for management personnel often bring to mind a mostly social, team building event that is ultimately a waste of time. But off-site retreats can actually be a perfect opportunity to engage in so-called “Business & Pleasure” and to evaluate strategy, market trends, the competition, key employees or the development of management members. A retreat allows you to see company matters from a fresh perspective and to tackle any subject worth discussing. It is a chance to organize a few executive sessions in an uncommon setting which can bring surprising results.
Similar to retreats outside of the company headquarters, but organized as a 1-4 hour session on-site at your office. A well-conducted briefing is half the battle. It is also a perfect opportunity to engage in teamwork with management. It is a good solution for monthly strategy meetings or weekly tactical meetings to review issues and metrics, solve problems, and to make and discuss decisions that will determine the long-term success of the company. It is certainly a solution that’s more budget-friendly, quicker and easier to organize, and it could even be more effective for certain topics. Such meetings can also be held more regularly, and the processes presented can be introduced more slowly, with more supervision over the developing situation.
WHAT DO WE GUARANTEE?
There is a range of potential issues that could prevent a successful on-site meeting or off-site retreat. A few mistakes could thwart your efforts, and create a setting that does not support effective work. What should you watch out for?
TOO COMPLICATED MEETINGS
Too many subjects on the agenda. Speeches that are more like sermons. Total information overload.
IGNORING THE AGENDA
Technically you have a plan, but no one keeps the meeting on time, no one moderates the proceedings – you’re letting chaos reign.
OVERLY EXCITING RETREAT
This might surprise you, but too many thrills or a trip to Ibiza could distract your managers.
INVITING NON-MANAGEMENT PERSONNEL
Adding even one low-level employee or an executive could introduce stress and limit conversations.
WHAT IS OUR ROLE HERE?
WHAT DO WE OFFER?
Invite us to work with you as an external coordinator for your discussions. Our team includes seasoned moderators who know how to direct the group process for management personnel so that it serves a specific purpose. Before we visit, we study the company’s method of operations and offer support in the preparations, and we can also provide end-to-end organization of a retreat or meeting. Using an external facilitator can bring many benefits. During group sessions, a person in this role can provide an objective perspective on the actions you take, keep the meeting controlled, lead it in the right direction and ask the right questions. The facilitator can also separate the wheat from the chaff and provide support for the whole team.
We are also great at conducting kick-off meetings, i.e. events marking the beginning of work on a project. During the kick-off, team members generate ideas, establish the roles each person will take, decide on an action schedule, predict future issues, choose the goals for the project, and more. We prepare the whole process, establish the details together with the client and conduct the meeting from start to finish, making sure that the management personnel stays engaged.
OR PERHAPS... A MASTERMIND GROUP OR ACTION LEARNING?
Mastermind is a method based on regular meetings of people on a similar stage in their careers in order to exchange experiences and overcome difficulties together. The participants report to each other what they have achieved, what their plans are and what challenges they’re currently facing, after which they brainstorm, advise and motivate each other and provide mutual support.
Action learning – an educational process that many regard as the most effective. It is organized in small groups during which the participants analyze their behaviors and experiences in order to improve. What sets this method apart from traditional education is that the learning is accompanied by doing. In action learning, you work on the tasks you need to get done, not just discuss them.
Here, too, you can count on our support.
We implement both methods at companies and teach employees to utilize the benefits of such styles of work. We can also conduct mastermind and/or action learning group meetings at the early introductory stage.
